FAQs

  • What’s the most important thing in therapy?

Therapists go through years and years of rigorous training to become licensed/certified to practice psychotherapy. However, what determines success in the therapeutic process might surprise you- it’s not the theories used, techniques tried, or the number of sessions attended (though these are still valuable aspects to the process of course!). The most significant predictor of success in therapy is having a great fit and deep rapport with your therapist. Choose wisely!

  • Do you take insurance?

Yes- I currently accept the following insurance plans:

    Medicaid/Health First Colorado

    Rocky Mountain Healthcare Plans

    Kaiser

    Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield

    United Health

    Aetna

  • Who do you see?

I work primarily with adults, providing one-on-one therapy. I do also see couples when it’s a good fit, though I am pickier when working with couples. I am LGBTQI+ affirming and kink/sex work-allied. I work with all genders.

  • Do you have an office for sessions?

No- at this time, all my sessions are virtual. I use Simple Practice, which is a secure telehealth platform for therapists.

  • What’s it like to work with you?

I am a mix of warm empathy and blunt directness. I will hold safe space for you to process what you need to while also pointing out what I see with my clinical lens and experience. I support my clients in reauthoring the stories they tell themselves that no longer serve them. I provide psychoeducation to empower. I teach skills and techniques for symptom relief. I will be both your cheerleader and accountability partner. I do not sit back and nod only. You hire me to help you, so that’s what I am going to strive to do.

  • What specialties do you offer?

I specialize in trauma, empowerment, depression/anxiety, addictions, and life transitions. If you do not fit into one of these categories, we still may be a good fit, but if not, I can provide you with referrals in most cases. I provide talk therapy (Narrative and Person-Centered approach), EMDR, DBT, and Motivational Interviewing.

  • What’s EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. This modality of therapy is designed for relief of trauma symptoms. Though we do not fully understand how EMDR works, the research shows it does work, and very well! This is one of the most evidenced-based practices out there for trauma. EMDR essentially takes the charge out of our most painful and unbearable memories so we can live authentically again. It’s hard work, but the results are beautiful and typically quicker than traditional talk therapy.

  • What’s DBT?

DBT stands for Dialectical Behavioral Therapy. This type of therapy is wonderful for clients wanting to regulate their emotions more effectively, improve how they communicate with others, self-soothe during very difficult times, and assert themselves in healthy ways. DBT is based of skills and techniques- you will have lots of homework that will finally help you reach your goals.
